Cayuga Community College Men's Basketball overcame an early 15-point deficit for a road win against Genesee Community College on Thursday.

Trailing for the first 30 minutes of play, the Spartans outscored the Cougars by 12 in the final 10 minutes to earn a 75-69 win. Cayuga was led by freshman guard Josiah Murphy, who finished with a game-high 30 points and added eight rebounds and three assists.

Genesee held an early lead, eventually building a 33-18 advantage with five minutes remaining in the first half. The Spartans closed the half on a 16-9 run, though, to trail by eight heading into the break.

The Spartans continued chipping away at the Cougars' lead early in the second half, with a jumper and free throws from Murphy and Kirk McFarlane cutting the lead to three. Genesee stayed in front, though, until a Murphy layup with more than five minutes remaining gave Cayuga its first lead. The Spartans took the lead for good with less than two minutes remaining on a jumper by Jadeir Breedlove, then relied on free throws from Murphy, Breedlove and Yagub Drammeh to ensure the win.

Breedlove was Cayuga's second-leading scorer, finishing with 16 points, three assists and three steals. McFarlane had a game-high 10 rebounds, and Drammeh had nine rebounds. The Spartans' defense held Genesee to just 17 percent shooting from three-point range.

Cayuga is now 3-2 in Mid-State Athletic Conference play and 3-11 on the season. They're back home Saturday, January 24, to host Onondaga Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
