Cayuga Community College Men's Basketball lost a pair of home games over the weekend to Hudson Valley Community College and SUNY Adirondack.
Competing at Auburn High School, Cayuga fell in overtime to the Vikings on Saturday by a 109-98 final, then lost to the Timberwolves 79-61 on Sunday. Cayuga is now 2-7 on the season and 2-5 in Region III play.
Against the Vikings, the Spartans started the game on a 13-4 run and led by double-digits for much of the first half. A Louie Charles three-pointer gave the Spartans a 42-32 lead, and a Jadeir Breedlove and-one later in the first half gave Cayuga a 12-point lead. The Spartans led 51-40 at the break.
The Vikings responded in the second half, tying the game at 63 with more than 12 minutes left. HVCC held a small lead for much of the rest of the second half, but Cayuga's Omar Musa banked in a game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime. Hudson Valley controlled the extra period, though, to earn the win.
Jai Clayton led Cayuga with 30 points, and Breedlove had 18. Musa had 13 points, Amaree Samuel had nine, and Yagub Drammeh had seven points and 15 rebounds. Kirk McFarlane had eight points and eight rebounds.
On Sunday, the Spartans stayed close to the Timberwolves early but trailed 39-25 at halftime. Adirondack held a double-digit lead throughout the second half.
Josiah Murphy had 32 points and nine rebounds to pace Cayuga's offense. Clayton had nine points, and McFarlane had seven points and seven rebounds.
Cayuga ends the fall semester part of the schedule on Friday, December 12, with a road game at Herkimer College. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
