Cayuga Community College Baseball won a wild opener against Erie Community College before losing the second contest at Falcon Park on Saturday.

The two teams combined for 25 runs in the first three innings before Cayuga added two late runs for a 15-12 win, but the Kats responded with a 9-2 win in the second game. The split leaves the Spartans with a 23-9 record on the season.

Erie held two six-run leads in the first three innings of the opener, but the Spartans rallied each time. Trailing 6-0 in the bottom of the second, Cayuga tied the game behind Chase Mascelli's two-run single and Tyler Black's two-run homer. The Kats responded with six runs in the top of the third, but Cayuga rallied again with seven of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Cayuga loaded the bases before adding runs on Jakson Ross' sacrifice fly and a pair of two-run doubles from Black and Eathen Yoon. Mascelli's two-run single in the sixth gave Cayuga a three-run cushion.

Mascelli had two hits and five RBI, and Black had three hits and four RBI. Ben Hatfield had three hits and scored three times, Joshua Lightburn scored three times, and Jeremy Recio and Yoon had two hits.

The teams switched roles in the second game, with Cayuga taking a two-run lead on Recio's RBI double in the third inning and Hatfield's RBI single in the fourth. The Kats' bats came alive in the fifth though, when they crossed the plate eight times before adding another run later in the contest.

Mascelli and Recio both hit doubles in the second game, with Mascelli and Tristan Sierra scoring runs.
