Cayuga Community College Men's Basketball lost a thriller at home in their first regional contest of the 2025-26 season earlier this week.
The Spartans held a single-digit lead for much of the second half against SUNY Broome on Wednesday but fell behind late and lost by a 61-58 margin. Cayuga is now 0-2 on the season.
The game was close throughout, with neither team building a double-digit lead at any point of the contest. Cayuga took a slim two-point lead into the halftime break, led by Yaqub Drammeh's 10 points in the frame.
Cayuga kept the lead for much of the second half, eventually going up seven with 6:45 remaining on a pair of Jadeir Breedlove free throws. The Hornets came back to take the lead with less than five minutes remaining, and the teams traded the lead in the closing minutes until Broome led 59-58 with 45 seconds left. Broome sank two free throws late to increase the lead to three, and the Spartans missed two game-tying three-pointers in the final five seconds.
Breedlove led Cayuga with 18 points, including 10 made free throws. He also finished with three rebounds and three assists. Drammeh ended with 16 points and a team-high 21 rebounds, and Jai Clayton had 16 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Kirk McFarlane had 7 points and 15 rebounds, and Omar Musa grabbed eight rebounds.
Cayuga hosts Corning Community College on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. in their second regional and conference match-up of the season.
