Spartans Split with Cannoneers
Cayuga Community College ended its division schedule for 2026 with a road split with Jefferson Community College on Sunday.
The Spartans took the opener 15-6 behind a complete game from Jack Walters, but couldn't complete a comeback in a 7-6 loss in the second game. Cayuga is 30-18 on the season and finishes 20-8 in Region III's East Division.
Cayuga dominated the opening game from the first inning, with Chase Mascelli smashing a solo homer to score the first of four runs in the inning. They followed that up with four more in the second, including two on an Eathen Yoon homer. Cayuga tacked on seven more in the fourth inning, with RBI hits from Tyler Black, Tristan Sierra and Emilio Turco.
Black and Yoon had three hits, and Mascelli and Sierra had two hits apiece. Yoon had five RBI, and Black, Sierra and Turco had two RBI. Recio, Black and Yoon scored three times apiece. Walters struck out three in the complete game win.
In the second game, Ross ripped his first homer of the year to lead off the contest and give Cayuga a one-run lead. They tied the game at two in the second when Lewis Huang drew a bases-loaded walk. With Cayuga trailing 7-3 in the fifth, Yoon led off the inning with his second homer of the day, and Huang singled home Sierra and Joshua Lightburn to make it 7-6.
Huang had one hit and three RBI, Sierra had three hits, and Lightburn had two. Ross and Yoon each scored twice. James MacLean threw three innings in relief, allowing one run and striking out three.
Cayuga wraps up its regular season and Mid-State Athletic Conference schedule with a road doubleheader at Finger Lakes Community College on Monday, May 4. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
