Spartans Drop 2 to Tribunes

Cayuga lost two games to Monroe CC on Tuesday.

Cayuga Community College Baseball lost both halves of a home doubleheader Tuesday to Division II Monroe Community College.

The Tribunes completed a comeback to defeat the Spartans 7-6 in the opener, then Cayuga was unable to overcome an early deficit in the second game, losing 6-3. Cayuga's record is now 28-16.

Cayuga's lineup started the first game strong with five runs in the opening inning. Joshua Lightburn doubled home two in the inning and Lewis Huang singled home two more. Cayuga only managed one more run the rest of the game, though, in the fifth when Lightburn doubled home Ben Hatfield.

Lightburn and Chase Mascelli had two hits, with Lightburn scoring once and driving-in three. Huang had two RBI, and Tristan Sierra had one. Six different Spartans scored runs.

The Spartans fell behind early in the second game and were unable to catch the Tribunes. Jakson Ross scored in the third on a single by Jeremy Recio, then Ross and Recio scored in the fifth on singles by Eathen Yoon and Sierra. Recio finished with three hits in the game to lead Cayuga's lineup, and James MacLean threw two innings of scoreless relief.
