Spartans Complete Sweep of Raiders

Cayuga Community College Baseball completed a season sweep of Fulton-Montgomery Community College with a pair of home wins on Monday.

The Spartans' lineup twice topped 10 runs on the day, coming away with a 15-5 win in the opener and a 13-4 victory in the second game. Cayuga is now 16-6 on the season and 8-0 in East Division play.

In the opener, the Raiders took an early lead before Cayuga plated five runs in the bottom of the first. Both Tristan Sierra and Ben Hatfield had two-run doubles, with Lewis Huang doubling home the fifth run of the inning. Cayuga added four in the third, including two on a double from Tyler Black, then added five more in the fifth.

Black and Sierra had three hits and three RBI, and Jakson Ross, Joshua Lightburn, Hatfield and Huang had two hits. Hatfield had four RBI and Jeremy Recio scored three runs. Isaac Allison earned the win.

The Spartans did the majority of their damage in the second game in the opening inning, scoring 12 runs in the frame. They drew 11 walks in the inning, with RBI singles from Hatfield and Lewis Huang. Jack Nieman earned his first collegiate win in the game.

Cayuga is home again Thursday, April 2, against SUNY Broome. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m.
