Spartans Lose 2 to Monroe

Cayuga Community College Baseball dropped a pair of road games to Division II Monroe Community College on Tuesday.

The Spartans fell in an extra-inning pitchers' duel in the first game by a 2-1 final, then lost the second game 11-3. The losses make Cayuga 10-6 on the season.

Pitchers from both teams dominated the first game, with Cayuga's Jack Walters scattering five hits and striking out four over five innings while allowing one unearned run. The Spartans tied the game in the sixth when pinch runner Isaac Allison scored on a Tribunes' error. The game entered extra innings, where the Tribunes scored the walk-off run with two outs in the eighth.

Cayuga held a brief lead in the second game when Jaxson Ross scored on a forceout in the first inning, but the Tribunes tallied four in the second to take the lead. Cayuga scored in the third on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Black and again in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Chase Mascelli. Mascelli had two hits, a run and an RBI to lead Cayuga's lineup in the second game.

Cayuga is back on the road Thursday with a doubleheader at Fulton-Montgomery Community College. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
