Cayuga Community College Baseball's lineup scored 19 runs on 18 hits in a doubleheader split with preseason #6 Surry Community College on Friday.

The Spartans opened the season on the road against Surry, who competed in last year's NJCAA Division III World Series at Falcon Park. The Spartans fell 8-7 in the opener Friday before rebounding with an 11-5 win in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Spartans erupted for four runs in the second inning, with Jack Walters smashing a bases-loaded double to plate three. They tacked on three more in the fifth, all with two outs. Eathen Yoon's double scored Jeremy Recio, then Ben Hatfield and Tristan Sierra drew walks to load the bases before Tyler Black's two-run single. The Spartans held the lead in the seventh, but the Knights hit a walk-off homer to earn the win.

Black finished with three hits, two RBI and a run scored, and Walters had three RBI and scored once. Isaac Allison, Alejandro Diaz, Hatfield and Sierra each scored once.

The Spartans' lineup dominated the second game, starting with Black's two-run single in the first that scored Jakson Ross and Recio. Joshua Lightburn blasted Cayuga's first homer of the season in the third inning, scoring Black and Diaz. They tacked on three more in the fourth, including two on a double by Sierra.

Hatfield, Black and Sierra each had two hits, with Black also driving in three runs. Ross, Recio and Lightburn each scored twice. Pitchers Dylan Gordon and Walters combined for five strikeouts and scattered nine hits over seven innings.

The teams are scheduled for another doubleheader Saturday, Feb. 21, starting at 12pm.
