Generals Sweep Spartans

Cayuga Community College Baseball lost both halves of a home doubleheader to #11 Herkimer College on Friday. 

The Spartans' bats were unable to get started against the Generals, who came away with wins of 11-1 and 17-0. Cayuga is now 19-9 on the season and 10-6 in East Division play.

Herkimer took a 3-0 lead in the second inning, with the Spartans responding in the bottom half of the inning on a double by Jacob Laird, who scored one batter later on a force-out by Alejandro Diaz. The Generals built their lead to 8-1 with a five-run fourth inning before adding another run in the sixth and two more in the seventh.

Mike DeRosa had two hits for the Spartans, with Laird, Isaac Allison and Luca D'Emilio also finishing with hits.

In the second game, the Generals scored four in the first to take a quick lead, then added a combined 13 runs in the third and fourth innings. Cayuga loaded the bases in the fifth but was unable to score.

Cayuga is on the road at Herkimer on Saturday, April 12. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for noon.
