Spartans Lose Road Match to Cougars
Cayuga Community College Volleyball lost their second match in less than a week to Genesee Community College on Thursday.
Playing their eighth straight away match to start the season, the Spartans fell to the Cougars in straight sets 25-20, 25-15, and 25-12. The loss comes five days after the Spartans lost to the Cougars at the Jefferson Community College pod tournament, also by a 3-0 margin.
Cayuga Coach Kiana Younis said the Spartans competed hard against the Cougars, but couldn't quite match them on the scoreboard.
"We played really well in the first set. In the second and third sets, I think we got down a little bit and our communication wasn't as good as it had been in the first set," she said. "I think we probably played them a little better Saturday at the Jefferson pod tournament."
Cassie Nolte led the Spartans in most categories, including tallying 11 digs, seven kills and two blocks. Nolte tied with Paige Lane to lead the team with two aces each, and Marrin Owens led Cayuga with 13 assists.
The loss drops the Spartans to 1-7 on the season ahead of their first home matches. On Saturday, Sept. 24, Cayuga hosts its pod tournament, with scheduled matches against Herkimer, Mohawk Valley and Fulton-Montgomery Community College. The first match, against Herkimer, is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Spartan Hall.
