Spartans Earn National, Regional Academic Honors

Thirteen Cayuga Community College student-athletes who competed in the 2021-22 season earned regional and/or national recognition for their achievement in the classroom on Monday.

Student-athletes from four of the Spartans' teams were named Academic All-Region, with nine of those student-athletes also named to the National Junior College Athletic Association's All-Academic teams.

The NJCAA divides its academic honors into three categories: All-Academic First Team, for students who earned a 4.0 GPA; All-Academic Second Team, for students who earned a GPA of 3.8-3.99; and All-Academic Third Team, for students who earned a 3.6-3.79 GPA.

For the regional academic honors, students who earn a GPA of at least 3.5 while completing 24 semester hours are named Academic All-Region.

Two Spartans were named to the NJCAA All-Academic First Team: Taylor Hunter (Volleyball) and Elisabeth Waterman (Women's Basketball). Hunter and Waterman were also named Academic All-Region.

Four Spartans were named NJCAA All-Academic Second Team and Academic All-Region: Doray DiLallo (Women's Basketball), Tyler Korsky (Baseball), Marrin Owens (Volleyball), and Allison Payne (Volleyball).

Three Spartans were named NJCAA All-Academic Third Team and Academic All-Region: Jason Baranick (Men's Basketball), Anthony Driscoll-Sadusky (Baseball) and Fernando Espinal (Baseball).

Spartans Baseball student-athletes Will Coleman, Phil Messina, Zachary Mock and Tyler Ziemak were also named Academic All-Region.

Across the NJCAA, a total of 9,912 student-athletes were named to the All-Academic teams.
