In their final home games of the regular season, Cayuga Community College Baseball swept both halves of a doubleheader from Columbia-Greene Community College on Saturday.
After Cayuga gutted out a 10-8 win in the first game, Connor McMahon held the Twins scoreless in the second contest as the Spartans easily took a 10-0 win. The wins moved the Spartans to 24-10 on the season and 15-7 in division play.
Cayuga Coach John Rizzo said it was important for the team to remain focused on improving their play each day with the postseason coming up next weekend.
"With the playoffs coming soon, we need to get in stride, and I think today was a step in that direction," said Cayuga Coach John Rizzo. "We need to keep moving that direction in our games tomorrow at Columbia-Greene, and try to get everyone healthy."
Cayuga raced out to an early lead in the opener against the Twins. After scoring one run in the first, the Spartans plated five in the second, with Anthony Driscoll-Sadusky tripling home one run and two runs coming on Hazel Martinez's team-leading 10th homer of the season.
After the Twins narrowed the lead to 6-3, Cayuga tacked on four more in the fourth, with Tyler Korsky, Michael Norton and Fernando Espinal driving in runs. The Twins again responded, this time with four runs in the fifth to cut the lead to 10-7, but scored only one in the top of the seventh.
Martinez finished three-for-three with three RBI, and Driscoll-Sadusky, Espinal and Alex Wurster each collected two hits, with Wurster scoring three times and Driscoll-Sadusky scoring twice.
In the second game, McMahon controlled the Twins, throwing a complete game while striking out six and allowing only one hit. The Spartans took the lead in the first on a sacrifice fly by Martinez and an RBI single by Norton, and tacked on runs each inning the rest of the game.
Norton finished the second game two-for-two with a triple and two RBI, and Korsky and Leroy Glaum scored twice.
Cayuga finishes the regular season Sunday with a doubleheader at Columba-Greene. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
