Spartans Lose 2 Road Games to Generals
Cayuga Community College Baseball was again on the short end of two close games to ninth-ranked Herkimer College on Sunday.
One day after losing two games at Falcon Park to the Generals, the Spartans suffered two narrow defeats on the road by scores of 9-8 and 3-1. Cayuga is now 21-9 on the season and 12-6 in divisional play.
Herkimer took an early lead in the opening contest with a two-run first inning and led 4-1 in the fifth when Cayuga rallied to take a 5-4 lead. Alex Wurster drove-in the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly, and Anthony Driscoll-Sadusky drove-in another with a single. The Generals responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to retake the lead, and added another in the sixth.
The Spartans rallied in the seventh, with Michael Norton, Phil Messina and Fernando Espinal driving in runs to cut the score to 9-8 before the Generals secured the final out.
Norton and Messina each had two hits for Cayuga, and Anthony Driscoll-Sadusky went one-for-three with two runs scored and two RBI. Zack Mock also scored twice.
In the second game, the Generals took an early lead in the first inning and added two more in the third. The Spartans' run came in the fifth inning on a solo homer by Logan Sheasgreen.
Five Spartans went one-for-three in the second game. Jordan Tharp allowed two hits and two earned runs in five innings on the mound.
The Spartans are on the road again on Thursday, May 5, at Mohawk Valley Community College. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m.
