Winning Streak Continues for Spartans Softball

Cayuga Community College Softball made it six wins in a row Sunday, pounding out a combined 24 hits in two games against SUNY Broome and securing their first road wins of the season.

One day after winning two home games against the Hornets, the Spartans repeated the feat on the road, taking both games Sunday by scores of 12-6 and 14-2. Cayuga is now 7-10 on the season.

"For the most part, we played well today. We made some minor defensive mistakes in both games, and those are things we can work on this week to prepare for our games against Mohawk Valley," said Cayuga Coach Chris Amoia. "This winning streak has given our team some confidence, and we need to work hard and stay positive for our last four games."

Cayuga's offense led the way in the first contest, as seven Spartans had at least two hits. Gabriella Bard went three-for-four with a double, two runs and two RBI, and Taylor Hunter went two-for-four with a double and three RBI. Abigail Marinelli scored three runs and drove-in two, and Skyler White and Makayla Titus each scored twice. Kyra Cottrill picked-up her first win of the season, striking out three in seven innings.

Starting pitcher Gabrielle Hass dominated for Cayuga in the second game. Hass allowed only two hits and two walks while striking out five to pick up her sixth win of the season. At the plate the Spartans stayed aggressive, with Marinelli going two-for-three with three runs and three RBI. Hunter finished with four RBI, Bard and Olivia Maassen each drove-in two, and Hass went two-for-three with two runs scored.

The Spartans will host Mohawk Valley Community College on Monday, May 3, at Falcon Park. The games are Cayuga's final home contests of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
